"Gotcha!"
— Spike
"Well, this net will hold you as well as it does those monkeys!"
— Spike, during PaRappa's rival cutscene
The Monkey Net (also named Time Net) is the most important item and weapon in the Ape Escape franchise. It is also Spike's level 1 super move. It involves Spike equipping the Time Net, allowing him to swing it downward in an attempt to capture his opponents. Doing so will defeat them.
Origin[]
The Monkey Net is one of the main Gadgets the player uses in the Ape Escape series, and is one of the only two gadgets the player starts the game with, the other being the Stun Club, used to attack and in All-Stars it is used for Spike's Square moves. In the games, the Net must be used to capture the Pipo Monkeys around the stage, and a certain number of captured monkeys is required to advance, however the player can revisit the stage and capture the remaining monkeys. Catching them all unlocks a special bonus which is different, in the first game it unlocks the final stage or true final boss Peak Point Matrix, and in Ape Escape 2, it unlocks Spike as a playable character.
Trivia[]

- The sound effect when catching monkeys in the Ape Escape series can be faintly heard.
- The Monkey Net and PaRappa's Skater Boy are the only Supers that are shown in the opening.
- Originally, Spike was to be able to choose whether to swing the net or to shoot it via the Net Gun.
